If Any of You Lack Wisdom...

James 1:5 has been a long-standing favorite text for my husband and I. We look to it for encouragement, for strength, and for guidance. As we have discovered, there are very few scenarios in life that could not be improved by having more wisdom!

In strict definition, wisdom is "... the quality of having experience, knowledge, and good judgment; the quality of being wise". Unfortunately, wisdom is often you acquire after you need it! The very act of navigating through a difficult decision or scenario teaches you what you should do the next time you are faced with something, but often is to late to help improve your wisdom during the current situation!

Throughout our childhood and adolescence, Jonathon and I independently dreamed and prayed about international mission service, asking God for wisdom and direction in our lives. When we met during graduate school in Loma Linda, CA, and discovered our mutual goals, we were even more certain that God was leading us and continued to pray that He would give good judgment and knowledge.

We were married in 2013 and immediately moved to Maryland to finish Jonathon's residency program and my Master's degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner. Again, we both prayed for lots of wisdom as we faced vigorous academics and learning curves.

As our time in Maryland drew to a close, we prayerfully considered where God would have us go next. Many doors opened and closed, but eventually we received a call to go work at Sheer Memorial Hospital in Banepa, Nepal. We were thrilled at this prospect and began to plan for the next years move. However, when we found out in April of 2016 that we were expecting our first child, the prayers for wisdom doubled!

Now, at the start of 2017 and just 6 weeks away from moving to our new home in the country of Nepal with our son, James, we ask that you join us in praying for wisdom! We have very little experience, very little knowledge, and while we hope we have good judgment we have found that many people question the intelligence of taking a 2 month old baby to Nepal!

We have begun a new chapter and phase of our lives. More than ever, we will be relying on our favorite text to give us courage and strength each day. We covet your prayers and invite you to check back here from time to time as we update you with stories, lessons, and experiences we will face in the next few years. Thank you for being a part of our lives!
